New York State "retaliates" against a dude by giving him a $93,803 salary to sit there and listen to music all day for 10 years

In other news he also plans to look gift horses in the mouth &  kill the goose the laid the golden egg. Dude, word of advice? SHUT UP! or get a blog and post on it all day. Besides what makes him think he is any different from the rest of the state workers?

As he tells it, Randall Hinton is paid $93,803 a year to do nothing.

He spends much of his workday at the State Insurance Fund donning headphones, listening to rock ‘n’ roll, blues or classical tunes and his superiors are cool with that.

His work agenda involves placing his feet up on his desk, staring out his office window and counting cars on the New York State Thruway. He arrives at 7:30 a.m., leaves at 3:30 p.m., sees no one and talks to no one.

He never does any work. It’s been this way for Hinton for most of this decade.

“I just sit here,” said Hinton, 55, of Niskayuna, a 27-year state employee who has held several high-level posts at various agencies.

At 6 feet 4 inches and 265 pounds he is an imposing figure who will begin to tear up when he discusses his situation. A member of the Passamaquoddy Tribe in Maine, he said he is being discriminated against because of his national origin and retaliated against for having sued the state.

Since February 2002, Hinton has been director of investigations for the Insurance Fund, but he said he has never been allowed to investigate anything. Instead, he builds up pension credits, year after year, but is unproductive at work because his superiors are blackballing him, he and his former boss say.

    I think the people who have posted on this blog fail to see the true issue here. This is an issue of racism. It is easy for the overwhelmingly white majority of Times Union to begin throwing stones when they live in a glass house. Those of you who are reacting negatively have never seen the ugly hand of racism. Racism is an ugly veil that lays over the eyes of most Americans, do not think because there is a minority in the White House that racism no longer exists, it does and you are ignorant if you think it disappeared overnight.

    You ask why Mr. Hinton hasn’t quit? Why would he quit? He has a family to feed just like the rest of you, however he is forced to subsist under oppressive conditions everyday. The fact that he has toiled under these conditions for so long is a testament to this man’s character. He hasn’t been sitting their idly, he filed a law suit and has pursued his case. He is clearly a man of resolve who is not willing to forfeit what he has done because he has been brushed aside. He should not be lambasted as the people who have posted here have generally done, but should be given a helping hand.

    why should Mr. Hinton quit? he earns 94k a year to listen to music 9 – 5. give me that job. if the state doesn’t want to use his talents but wants to give him an office and a paycheck so be it. I would start listing e-bay all day or something else to make a little side cash during those hours the state expects me to sit there and wither and die.

    For realz. What a dumb@$$. Everyone’s got an issue to cry about. We get the issue. I wish I had this guy’s problems. STFU about it already. I wonder how his wife and kids (if married and/or if married with children) are going to feel about him not bringing home close to 6 figures after he gets canned. Even if we weren’t in the worst recession since the Great Depression and the State wasn’t looking for anything they can to cut the budget, this would be it regardless. Goodbye M-F, 7:30-3:30, $93K+ just for showing up and punching in, and hello unemployment line. Hope he enjoys staying home and listening to “rock ‘n’ roll, blues or classical tunes” for peanuts. Though I suspect it’ll be more blues, less rock’n'roll.
